The hanging area rotates 360° and is made of plastic (as shown in the description), but it is quite sturdy. As long as you don't hang very heavy clothes, you can hang more than one item per rod. Very simple but nice to have, puts together easily and doesn't feel flimsy at all. I immediately hung 5 pairs of pants on it which got kind of heavy and it's totally fine.
